The Schumann Letters

Saturday, October 16, 8 pm
Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre -
1007 Trunk Rd.

German Composer Robert Schumann fell in love with a young virtuoso Clara Wieck. Despite adamant opposition from her father throughout their courtship, the couple sought legal consent and were wed in 1840. During this time, thousands of letters were written between them which provided the inspiration for this music-as-theatre performance.

The Schumann Letters features some of the most beautiful piano and vocal music of Robert Schumann. Exquisitely narrated, these musical highlights are intertwined with a timeless story of love, life, tragedy and triumph. A fresh approach to classical music, this production animates Schumann’s great works. The result is a mesmerizing performance of awe-inspiring music and storytelling that will entice the piano, voice and theatre enthusiasts as well as newcomers alike.

The Schumann Letters is narrated by Juno & Gemini winner Colin Fox, with soprano Susan Gilmour Bailey and pianist Michael Kim. Join these artists on a journey of pleasure, grief, courage and music.

“The concept is brilliant…each piece of music took on new meaning in the context of the details of the tortuous lives of Robert and his wife, Clara.” – The Brantford Expositor
